BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO SHANGHAI UNIVERSITY OF SPORT
Shanghai University of Sport (SUS), founded in November 1952, is the first university of its kind in New China. SUS was formerly under the direct governance of the General Administration of Sport of China and began to be jointly constructed and managed in 2001 by the General Administration of Sport of China and Shanghai Municipal Government.
Over sixty years of construction and development, SUS has grown into a multi-disciplined university with six categories of education, management, science, literature, medicine and arts featured with sport science. SUS has established a complete educational system covering bachelor, master and doctoral programs and set up the mobile station for post-doctoral research in sport science. Currently, SUS has more than 4000 full-time undergraduate students on campus, 1000 postgraduate students, 1400 overseas students, 1400 adult students, and more than 700 teaching and administration staff, among whom 82 are professors and 170 associate professors.
Taking “lifelong development for students and teachers” as its philosophy and “developing the students both physically and mentally with a balanced education of liberal arts and science, and with the mutual enhancement of morality and techniques to order to cultivate all-round talents for the society” as its educational principle, SUS has carried forward its fine traditions in teaching and research and is dedicated to the continuous enhancement of the quality of both teaching and talent cultivation.
General Introduction to the School of International Cultural Exchange of Shanghai University of Sport
School of International Cultural Exchange of Shanghai University of Sport (its predecessor is International Cultural Exchange Center, which found at January, 2006. And its name was changed at October, 2009) is a specialized institution which is responsible for educational management of international students in China. School has three divisions, which are the school office, the international student office and the teaching Chinese as a foreign language office. Now school has 1 Dean, 1 Vice Dean and 16 permanent staffs. School of International Cultural Exchange not only focuses on Chinese language teaching, but also is responsible for the enrollment of 14 majors for undergraduate degree, 11 majors for master, 4 majors for doctoral degree and some other long/short-term sport training programs toward international students. School of International Cultural Exchange has well-equipped International Student Apartment. Shanghai University of Sport gained the qualification to receive international students in 2006 and was elected as standing director member of International Student’s Educational Research Association of Shanghai Universities and International Student’s Educational Management Branch of Chinese Academy for Higher Education in 2007and 2009.
The International Students Office
The International Students Office (ISO) of Shanghai University of Sport (SUS) is mainly responsible for the admissions, visa/residence permit, and scholarship affairs of international students. It also coordinates in such issues as academics, living, extra-curricular activity, cultural exchange, security, career planning, and alumni networking, etc. The ISO staffs are very pleased to have the international students from all over the world here in SUS and ready to provide quality service. It is believed that your study and life at SUS will be pleasant, impressive, and meaningful in outreaching your future career.
ISO is easily reached by international students. It is located on the first floor of SUS International Students Apartment (No. 300 on Hengren Road).
The Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Office
The Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Office (TCFLO) of Shanghai University of Sport (SUS) focuses on creating situational language teaching programs to improve Chinese language teaching and learning. China's rich history, vast population and diverse cultures make it a fascinating area of study. Its growing economic power and influence also make it an important pathway to employment. We are pretty sure that Learn Chinese language with the help of TCFLO and you’ll start to open up these avenues.
TCFLO is easily reached by international students. It is located on the fourth floor of SUS Indoor Track and Field Stadium with the room No 403.
